Natural walk
Ruboni village is located at the foothills of the Rwenzori mountains. Enjoy 3 hours long walk in nearby forests, fields and hills and learn about the indigenous trees, endemic birds and species of local area as well as local farming methods and challenges of climate change for Ruboni community. Village walk
Ruboni village is populated by Bakonjo tribe. We do keep our traditional way of living, cooking on the fire, fetching the water in the river, cultivating our gardens and practicing handcrafts. During a 3 hours walk, you will visit Bakonjo family and see the village through their eyes. They will guide you through the village, trading center, visiting local blacksmith and basket makers. They welcome you int their house and prepare a meal from the crops harvested in their gardens. You can learn how to brew local beer, prepare local dishes or make a basket. Contact us for details.
Handcrafts Experience
Our women make faboulous traditional baskets, mats and beads from local material. They also colour them with local plants. In this walk you join the women to the forest to collect special plants and roots for colouring the threads for baskets. Meanwhile they share their wisdom about local plants and medicinal herbs. In second hour you will learn how to make a basket, beads and colour them youself.
Coffee Experience
Our farmers grow delicious arabica coffee on the slopes of Rwenzori mountain. It this 2 hours excursion you will visit a family producing their coffee from a bean up to a cup. You will learn about farming the coffee, taking care of plantation, harvesting cherries and explore all processing stages -pulping, drying, husking, winowing, roasting, pounding, grinding up to serving. Of course at the end you will enjoy your cup of home made coffee.
Pottery and Woodcraft Experience
Would you like to learn about traditional way of pottery an woodcraft? At this 3 hours long program you will visit a fabulous lady who has more than fifty years of experience in pottery. She will teach you how to work with clay, make a bowl or a vase, how to decorate in local styles. She is happy to share her songs and stories while handcrafting. You will get a chance to try also wood-crafting. This family has a lot to share about traditional life of Bakonzo tribe.
Cultural Experience
Bakonzo tribe is unique for their dance and music. This is a perfect opportunity to experience their dance, drumming and singing and even join yourself. The cultural group will introduce you to local music instruments like drums and xylophones, they will dance abd sing for you number of songs belonging to different function, they will also teach you some steps of their dance.
